Change of a course....

The last few weeks I've learned quite a bit. I have been feeling like I'm on a different course than what I have been on for the last 9 years. It feels like my sense of creativity and desires are changing on how I'm scrapbooking my family's memories. At the very beginning, I was all about "all out there", now I'm at the point where I'm wanting to simplify things. I don't know if this course is a permanent one or it's just to give me a different view on how simple scrapbooking can be. I am hoping with time that I will find my groove and work from there. So please be patience with me if my works are far in between posts.

Week 1 - Project Life

Week 1 of Project Life

Nothing fancy about week 1 - just a few pictures this week. It is going to be get some time before I get some better idea of how I want to do the Project Life by Becky Higgins. At this point, it looks like I'll be taking photos of events that is part of our crazy life. I still have to figure out how to switch my mode about using vertical shots more often. Hopefully by the end of the month that I will have a better idea of how I'm going to do this project. :)

Am posting this a day late. I was unable to do it yesterday.

Changes to the Monthly Cards Club

We will meet at my house to create 8 cards. There will be 4 designs where you will create 2 of each, which gives you total of 8 cards. Envelopes will be provided too. The cost for this will be $15.00 which covers all the supplies that is used for the projects and the envelopes cost. We will meet monthly, on the second Monday of each month. Please rsvp at least a week ahead of time so I can prepare enough supplies for everyone. If you have to cancel but wishes to get the cards, please let me know and I will get yours made and get them to you. Payments will be required at the Club dates. However, you can pay in advance if you want to.

Edited to add that I do offer an optional add on package for Christmas Cards. Create 4 cards with ONE design. The optional add on package cost is $5.00. This will be offered every month to provide you total of 48 cards at the end of the year. You will need to notify me if you want this optional add on.

You're welcome to bring friends! Again, please let me know so I can ensure there's enough materials for everyone!

Farewell 2011!

I can say that I can't believe that 2011 is almost out of the door. The year of 2011 was a very emotional roller coaster for my family. It had started the year off with 4 deaths in the family all within 2 weeks time frame. It was a very rough month for the whole family.

As some of you know that we had started remodeling our previous home in August of 2010. Then we took a break for Thanksgiving through Christmas 2010 to enjoy the holidays. We started the remodeling projects again in February of 2011 and we worked non-stop from February to the end of April to prepare the house ready for the market. We lived there for 12 years and simply had outgrown the spaces the house provided, which was 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom and it was only 1,400 sq ft. Although we had a bedroom in the basement, but the city doesn't count that as a bedroom legally. Raising 3 boys and having 2 dogs, wasn't just cutting it out for us anymore. So we got the house on the market in May of 2011 and the boys decided they wanted to play baseball. Between all the open houses, baseball practices and games we managed to hit the jackpot on 38th day of being on the market! On June 11, 2011 we had recieved a contract on our previous home. Meanwhile, the same day we put down a contract on our new home which has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with a full size basement. It is bigger in sq ft than the old house. We moved into our new home on July 1st. We *LOVE* it here!! During our move, it was one of those hottest weekend. The summer proceeded to be over 100 degree for several weeks, which made the baseball games and football practices unbearable for all of us.

By the end of July, two of our sons joined the football team for the new schools and that kept us even more busier in between unpacking, taking them to practices and going to the games. School started up - the kids do really enjoy their new schools. They are doing really great in school! In September, two of our sons decided to join soccer teams. One of them was still actively playing football. So here, entire month of September and October, we were running to football practices\games and soccer practices\games. We wouldn't trade this for anything in this world. Seeing our sons enjoying sports, new schools and new home is priceless. October rolled around, football and soccer ended and things started to settle down quickly for our family to where we can kick back at home and relax. (Edited to add: November came around - Duncan decided to take on a dare and swallowed a quarter! Needless to say that it ended in a couple trips over to Cardinal Glennon Hospital to keep track of this quarter. At this point, he still hasn't passed it. People ask him all the time "Got a quarter?". Looking back, it was scary at first, but now it's kinda funny. I have asked him a couple times if he would pull that again? He replies "No!".) Cold weather kicked in and we are home more often now. We are just relaxing and enjoying being home. We spent our first Christmas morning here and it was just SO nice! We are looking forward to ringing into 2012 here.

Along with all of the roller coasters that our family went through, there was no time for us to hang out with our friends or extended family between everything that happened this year. Also, my scrapbooking hobby and business was put on the back burner. I have no complaints about that at all because I know my one little word "determination" (see Ali Edwards's One Little Word 2011) had really paid off for our family this year. I was SO determined to get the old house sold and moved before our oldest son start high school. Yet here we are, a year earlier than planned! Seeing our children being happy here and everyone's contented is really priceless for my husband and me. It's amazing that 2011 really flew by for us, mainly because we were SO busy this year. I am welcoming 2012 with a big open arms because there's so many projects I am looking forward to doing. Some of them are related to the house, some to scrapbooking and few are to my personal life.

I am looking forward to all the new changes and learn to grow with them. So my new word for 2012 One Little Word will be "Change". The last 2 years we've gone through so much changes and I know there will be more coming so I'm embracing 2012 as the year for the CHANGE.

If you have read this far, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so patient with me this year with my lack of scrapbooking artworks and posts. I am looking forward to more of those in 2012.

RSVPS are required with 24 hours notification if you’re not able to attend so the space can be used for someone else. Thanks for your consideration! We do potluck dinner at our night crops. We all contact who is attending and figure out what everyone is in mood to have then we all chip in on the food lists that is needed for dinner. Also, drinks and snacks are chipped in too. I always provide sweetened tea and un-sweetened tea.

o There is NO fee for this! All I ask is that you chip in with the foods, snacks and drinks for the night crops.

Weekly Challenges starting 2012!

Whew, 2011 really took a BIG change for our family for the better!! I had to put literally everything on hold and just never really got back into it. So now, I am bringing back the Weekly Challenges back! Now that the house is completely unpacked. :) Here's the description for the Weekly Challenges from last year.

Want to boost your creativity? Come and join us on a weekly challenge blog hop! Don’t have a blog? EASY FIX! Blogspot offer FREE blogs and they’re easy to use. If you need assist in setting up one, email me and we’ll get you started with one! I will be posting my weekly challenges every Monday morning at 12:00 am. There will be a link widget where you could add your URL if you would like to be part of the challenges. There would be a week in between to work on the following week's challenges. I am posting this on December 19th, 2011 so some of you can have some time to get a month worth scheduled to go, if you desire to. There are no requirements of what type of accessories/companies or tools to use for your artworks, just long as you adhere to the guideline for each week. Whether if your supplies are current or retired, it doesn't matter.!! The whole concept is to get your creativity FLOWING!! :). The Basement Studio (warning: lot of pictures)

Since we moved into this new house in July, I took over the basement for the studio. The walls needs to be painted with drylok. It's pretty big and it gives me alot of room to wiggle. Like I said, it isn't perfect or anything, but it is VERY do-able! However, it does get chilly down here! LOL! So I have the oil radiation heater and it helps a bit. If it wasn't running - it's roughly 55 to 60 degree in here, but once I get it going and it get up to around 67 to 69 and it's just enough for me to work a couple of hours down here. We do have a small vent that helps. We have a cellar door right off the steps and it's very drafty so that plays a huge role right now. So that's on the agenda in the spring to be fixed along with the drylock painting. We did change out 3 of the light fixtures and still have 3 more to change out, but we're in no hurry at this point. The black rugs are covering an OLD tiles - that will be removed in the spring when we do the painting. We would like to add drop ceiling to the ceiling (which would help with insulating the basement), since we would need access to the wires/plumbing just in case! I have no plans on putting up walls or anything. I really like how open it is. We have the washer/dryer, freezer, food pantry cabinets and the tool shelf down here and it's still a lot of wiggle room. I can fit at least 12 people including myself comfortable down here for a crop night. So be warned - the walls aren't pretty!! The paints are flaking off so it looks like it is regular paint. Yuck.

I'm standing in between the freezer and the computer area. This is the diecut and embossing table.

This is the storage where I store all the punchers, catalogs, Chipboards, old catalogs from SU and CTMH. On top of it has the knick knacks that the boys made when they were little, along with the Power sort boxes from CM (LOVE those!).

This is the computer/printer/VP area. Nothing fancy :) Don't mind the background. That's the laundry area and the tool shelf area.

This cubes are on the other side of the diecut/embossing table. It houses all the stamps from SU and TAC. Along with too many things. :)

This is just partially of the tables. I do have 2 extra tables, but they're away in the storage.

Standing on the other side of the basement - As you can see, it's pretty long and plenty of room.

This is where I usually do my creative times.

Our rottweiler dog, Metzger - He always has to come down here when I'm down here, even if Jeff's home. It's irony because we had gotten Metzger for Jeff after the death of Bubba, our previous rottweiler. Metzger pretty much follows me more than he does with Jeff, while Roxie, our mini daschund is supposed to be for me, but she always goes with Jeff.

Party Bags for Christmas Party

I was surfing the blogs that I like to check out and came across Mandy Leahy, one of the fabulous CTMH consultants. She had this really CUTE Santa bag!! It gave me some ideas what to create for the Party Bags that I volunteered to do for two of my sons' classes. There was 43 that I needed to make in all together for both class! With Mandy's - she used white boa for hers, I modified and used cotton ball instead. The result still came out GREAT. The boys loved it! They can not wait to take it to school. I filled up all 43 with candies. I had purchased 6 large bags of candies for this.

The bags was cut out by our awesome Cricut Art & Philosophy, (AP cartridge).

For the Santa bag: I used Holiday Red, Black and Sunflower cardstocks. I used the cotton balls.

For the Reindeer bag: I used Kraft, Black, White Daisy and Holiday Red cardstocks. I used Stampin' Up's punchers (1", 3/4" and 1/2" circles). I drew the lips with CTMH's black marker. The antlers are actually leaves/branches from our AP cartridge.

For the Snowman bag: I used Juniper and White Daisy cardstocks. I used Stampin' Up punchers (1", 1 1/4", 1 3/8" circles). I used Black Memento inkpad and Juniper inkpad, along with black marker and orange marker. The stamp set I used for the buttons, arms, face and the hat came from our stamp set called All Decked Out (D1308).

Christmas Presents

My Mom and Ma Di was in town last weekend and we celebrated Christmas early with them since they live in Florida. We were supposed to trek down to Florida for this Christmas, but with purchasing our new home and moving. It wasn't possible, but next year we will be heading there for sure! Anyway, I had created their Christmas presents and wasn't able to post it, just in case Mom does check the blog. :)

Mom's present is this "LOVE" blocks. I had seen another CTMH consultant do it as in "Snow" and "Frosty". I thought I had saved that link, but unfortunately I didn't. I will have to find it and include it here so she can get the proper credit for this idea.

I used the CTMH's Notebook Level 2 Patterned Papers, Chocolate acrylic paint, Black vinyl, CTMH's Clear Sparkles, SU's Ivory organdy ribbon and SU's Gold cord ribbon. Also, can't forget the mod podge! :)

For Ma Di's present. I had a photo cubes that I had purchased from Oriental Trading about a year and half ago, but never got around to using it up. I finally did! I wanted to create it where she could put it on her desk at work, as she is always displaying pictures of the grandchildren.

I used Stampin' Up's papers -they're retired, I believe. I don't even know the name. I didn't save it. I did distress the edges with CTMH's Goldrush inkpad. The acrylic paint is called "Deep Ocean Blue" by Folk Arts.

Turkey Centerpiece

I was surfing the blog the other day and I came across November Rose's blog and saw her Turkey centerpiece and LOVED it! I knew I had to make one for myself! Check {hers} out! Here's my spin of the Turkey centerpiece although I did some modifications of my own. I flattened the feathers and added another rows on each section. I used retired Oliva's Level 2 paper packets, Barn Red cardstock, Sunflower cardstock, Olive cardstocks and Cocoa cardstocks. The inks are black and cocoa. I used the Art Philosophy's cartridge to cut out the circles and punched out the scalloped circles. It was a BIG hit with the family. Thanks to November Rose for the inspiration!

I created those 8 frames (2 of each) for the baby shower that I helped hosting for a friend of ours who is expecting her second son in January. This was at her request and I had fun creating them! It has been a long time since I created those type of frames.

We will meet at my house to create 8 cards. There will be 4 designs where you will create 2 of each, which gives you total of 8 cards. Envelopes will be provided too. The cost for this will be $15.00 which covers all the supplies that is used for the projects and the envelopes cost. We will meet monthly, on the second Monday of each month. Please rsvp at least a week ahead of time so I can prepare enough supplies for everyone. If you have to cancel but wishes to get the cards, please let me know and I will get yours made and get them to you. Payments will be required at the Club dates. However, you can pay in advance if you want to.

You're welcome to bring friends! Again, please let me know so I can ensure there's enough materials for everyone!

After a long thinking and discussions with some of my customers, I have decided to re-configure the Scrapbook Club & Stamp of the Month Club. There's a lot of things that were big part in the decision making, especially with the economy. The scrapbook club & stamp of the month clubs will be at a fixed amount each month. I will be posting lists of what is specifically needed for the club night, but I will be providing majority of the supplies.

Oct 5th is the Stamp of the Month Club Night ( 6 pm to 9 pm )
Oct 15th is the Scrapbook Club then a crop night will follow after that ( 2 pm to ?? )

Question about the Scrapbook Club

I had gotten an email asking some questions about the scrapbook club. You do not have to buy everything that's on the list. The only thing that's necessary is the Kit which is $29.95 before tax/shipping. The rest is just an optional. I do add in other stamp sets and accessories to spruce the layouts up.

The blocks and ink-pads are ALWAYS provided at the Club Meet-Ups. If you desire to create them at home - then everything that you will need to duplicate what is created at the Club Meet-Ups is on the list and you can place your order by going to http://www.closetomyheart.com/jensstudio.

We have moved! We are LOVING our new home!! We moved during two days - where it was soo hot - the heat were brutal! It was 98 both days with the heat index well over 102 degree! The house is slowly coming together!! The Studio was packed into the spare bedroom and will be a while before I am able to get in there and unpack them.

Crazy weekend!

It was a crazy weekend! We have sold our home and have put down a contract on a new home, all on the SAME day! It definitely was meant to be! We are VERY excited about the new journey and new home! Both contracts have been signed. So we're looking at possible mid-july move date, I would be hearing more about this probably end of this week or next week, hopefully! So today, I have officially started packing the studio and probably will be done with that by the end of the week as that was the only room in the house we didn't pack up anything from. Majority of the house have 75% packed away before we had it on the market. It shouldn't be much to pack. So just so you know the blog will be bare for a while. We are going to have to store the studio into the spare bedroom for the time being until we get the basement fixed up. I'll keep the blog updated with Close to my Heart's promotions and breaking news. Don't forget - July is when the NEW Fall/Winter catalogs are released!!

Hope for Japan Stamp Set

Our amazing company,Close to my Heart's design team have came up with a stamp set for Japan - in the wake of the mother nature's destruction. Normally, our A-sized sets are priced for $7.95, but the “Hope for Japan” set will be available through April 30 for just $5– and Close To My Heart will be donating 100% of the profits to the American Red Cross to benefit relief efforts in Japan.

Decisions, Decisions and More Decisions.....

After some long discussions - all future Operation Write Home Card-making parties, crops, and clubs are currently on HOLD. We are in the final stretch of the house remodeling and stresses are piling up for me. So, I will be taking some time off from business aspect of CTMH so I can focus on the final projects for the house. However, I am sure with time, I'd pop into the studio here and there to make some things just for fun.

However, KOTM Club is STILL active and will be done online. The monthly newsletters WILL still be available so you are kept in the loops of what is going on with Close to my Heart. Those two will be the only things that will be happening and this will make it easier for me right now at this point. I know I will miss this greatly, but at the same time I know it is not a long term. I can not wait till we move and have MORE rooms for you all to come and we'll have lots lots of fun!

3 x 3 Mini Album Class

Come to the class on Saturday, March 26th from 2 pm to 4 pm to create this adorable 3 x 3 mini album! We will be using Mayberry Level 2 paper packet to create 16 pages of 3 x 3! I have provided the supply list (below the pictures) that is needed for the materials if you are unable to come. The class fee is $10.00 to cover the album and the papers. We will be using the supplies that I have on hand - you're welcome to bring your own if you wishes. The only thing you will need to bring is glue or some type of adhesives. I have supplies enough for 14 spots, so please {RSVP} for your spots.

I know I am so behind on a lot of things that are related to the blog, weekly challenges and among several projects. The house projects have restarted back up after 2 1/2 weeks break and I was just literally exhausted that I just focused on the usual housework and read a lot of books. We're down to TV room that we are currently working on for the kids, then it's the bedrooms (with one of them needing new carpet) then it's the kitchen. That's all that is left inside of the house, then we have minor landscaping that we need to fix. We are aiming for April to be completed with the projects, but we are prepared for detours. I would like to be done totally with the projects before the end of May due to the summer break that the boys will have.

So to my readers - Thank you for sticking with me this far and I haven't been into my studio since the open house, and I am already missing it! I am hoping to sneak a little bit of time and try to get some of the weekly challenges caught up!

o Every month and we will do 2 projects
o Orders and payments are due in online by/on the 20th of each month (the order system will CLOSE the party on the 21st of each month), so the meet up date will be around near that date
o There are 6 spots in each club (can always have more than 6, but will run at a longer term)
o Minimum is $30.00 before tax and shipping!
o You will get a turn at being the Hostess on specific month and earn FREE hostess rewards!
o When it is your month - you can send ez-vite invitations to your friends and have them place their order on the EZ-vite online gathering order, which is done on line. It's GREAT way for you to earn MORE hostess rewards when it's your month!

WOW! The open house was a blast! I had soo much fun! I know who all came did too! The turnout was GREAT! I want to say thank you to some people - First, I want to say thank my husband for being a GREAT sport about this. He helped setting things up and getting things done around the house so I could do the open house. THANK YOU JEFF and LOVE YOU! :) Second, Thank to my sounding boards for their feedbacks! It was greatly appreciated!

I had this tutorial printed out for a while and had been wanting to attempt it. I finally got around to it! :) The photos are taken by Ma Di, my mom's partner when they both went to Providencetown, Mass and NYC, New York. I had copies of Ma Di's photos on my laptop and I chose those 4 as the photos to do.

Supplies you'd need are 4 - 8 x 10 canvas (I found them in the craft section at walmart), Black Acrylic paint (or your choice of colors), 1 patterned paper, your choice of ribbon, staple gun and mod podge! The tutorial is { HERE }. It has all the supply list that you will need to get this made. I had the sides created with Perfect Day level 2 paper packet (the pink damask). Anyway, I wanted to get this posted for you to see. Mom and MaDi loves it!

I was asked by a few people to post the new studio pictures. So here they are! I've got the best husband!! He built this room!! This is in the basement now. Originally, I had the dining room, but we needed to convert it back to the dining room before we could put it on the market so that's why we added the studio into the basement. Granted, it does get cold down there at times, but it's perfect! :)

This is what you will see when you walk into the room.
This holds the CTMH Organizers for Brads, blocks and more brads!
The Cubes holds all unmounted stamps sets from Stampin' Up! and The Angel Company, while the top two drawers holds cards and envelopes.
The next two to your left: they hold big shots diecuts, cuttlebugs folders, scraps from the Level 2 PPs, and long envelopes.

This is on the wall on your right side when you walk in (see previous picture)

This is where I store all magazines, books, the baskets holds paints, chipboards, punchers.
On the top - rows of jars holding prima flowers!

On the bottom - Cropper hopper paper holders holding all of our famous 60 cardstocks!

The next rows - are our level 2 paper patterns.

The 4 shelves - left side holds the paper trimmers and scrubbers

Middle side holds unfinished projects, more cardstocks, cricut mats and templates

Right side holds Layout Power (CM) more unfinished projects and the last 3 shelves hold the sponge wedges

Those shelves are from Lowe's - they're really handy! on Top row - I store extra stuff, monos

The second row- I store such as the large xyrons, abc stamp sets, scentsy bars/bricks

The Third rows are: Printer, stamp sets (stored in the CD case from walmart)

The Fourth Row: More stamp sets, 12 x 12 sterlites boxes storing all ribbons

The Fifth row: Baskets full of chipboards books, Metal products for altered arts

This is where I store alot of the extra inkpads, completed layouts, knick knacks, embossing powders

I store all the brads, buttons and several things in jars that was purchased from walmart in the kitchen sections.

In the cubes - I store tools, distressing tools, adhesives and more layouts
